Freedom To Choose

Sometimes when faced with a dilemma, we have no idea what to do next, or we feel we don’t have a choice. We may experience uncertainty and fear and as a result, we plod along and hope for the best.

Stop and ask yourself, “what really matters, right now?”. Dig deep and ask, “what do I really want?”. Limit the temptation to consider outside opinions or judgements. Be quiet, and listen for a clear, honest answer. Trust the answer even if it’s not what you expected or if it doesn’t fit neatly into your current world.

You have the freedom to choose what you will do next.

The topic of “choice” often surfaces in my coaching sessions. When we keep digging, we realize that what happens next is our choice. This line of thinking can apply to simple everyday decisions, whether at work or home, and to more complex situations that confront us. Once we understand and accept the idea of choice, we feel a weight lift, and we gain the freedom to explore the possibilities.

When we recognize that we always have a choice, we give ourselves permission to relax, own, and accept.

Every time you are tempted to react in the same old way, ask if you want to be a prisoner of the past or a pioneer of the future.
